a brief note from Raa:

You know what's crazy?

The profession puts so much pressure on you, it actually convinces you to see your own health and vitality as gratuitous

As if your body isn’t the avatar for your entire human experience.

As if it isn’t the only thing in life that’s uniquely yours.

Why, exactly, are you supposed to feel guilty for wanting an awesome body? Why are you told to take care of yourself "later," over and over again?

But you’re never afforded much time to actually reflect on the insanity of it all. The second you do, you get hit with a "pls fix" email that's actually designed to ruin your life.

I struggled to get into impressive shape most of my life. I nearly gave up and blamed my genetics. It only got more difficult once I started practicing at a firm. Pretty much every lawyer I know has the same reality:

  • Chronic stress—from clients, judges, opposing counsel, office politics and high stakes work

  • Diminished recovery capacity (because of that stress)

  • Serious cognitive demands that require you to be at your best every waking hour, day after day

  • A merciless, unpredictable schedule (no matter how well you try to plan ahead)

As a lawyer, it felt like my two choices were burning out with protocols from fitness addicts, or settling for mediocre results. I was way too busy for the former, and too stubborn for the latter.

I figured out a third option. And it feels like an absolute heist.

I realized something important early on in my career:

When the deck is stacked against you as a lawyer, you need to play offense and rig the game right back

There's a serious advantage in learning how to solve fitness while you're busy. It means the solution must be simple. And since life will never get too crazy for simple, you get to be athletic for the rest of your life without any burdens whatsoever.

Life's too short to settle.

To your impressive health and fitness,

Raa
